English Department
The Department of English promotes the knowledge and appreciation of literature, introduces basic concepts of rhetoric and argumentation, and helps students across the university master effective writing principles. English majors develop a strong foundation in rhetorical theory and skills in literary analysis and writing, which they can use for their vocations, continuing education, or personal development.
The English program prepares majors to communicate effectively, think critically with a global perspective, utilize civic engagement, and acquire broad interests. In addition, the department helps majors and minors prepare for careers and provides a strong foundation for graduate study.
My favorite part of the program was the genuine desire of all my professors to get to know me personally and help me learn. I know that I can still call on those professors if I ever need their advice or encouragement. The support I received as an English major set me up for a lifetime of success!
