After winning the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Student Government Association special election, Lola Myatt and Rachel King were officially inaugurated as the new President and Vice President of the UMHB's Student Government Association (SGA) on March 24. The inauguration ceremony took place at 6:30 p.m. in the Fowler Boardroom on the third floor of Bawcom Student Union. While this ceremony marked the beginning of their leadership, Myatt and King will not assume their official duties until the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester.
Both Myatt and King voiced their enthusiasm about their upcoming roles and are eager to begin their work with the SGA. Myatt shared her vision for her presidency, "In my time as President, my goal is for students to feel heard and supported by their Student Government. I also hope to foster more student engagement, especially on weekends, through various events." Myatt also added, “I want to provide opportunities for SGA members to engage with students regularly. I want to ensure that the executive cabinet is following up with senators on their proposals and bills weekly and offering assistance where needed," she said.
King also expressed her excitement towards the future, “I feel like me and Lola will be a great pair, and we can’t wait to work together and with the SGA and our fellow students.”
While Myatt and King are preparing for their leadership roles, the SGA is still taking applications for class officer and executive cabinet positions until Friday, Mar. 28. For more information on available SGA positions, visit their official Instagram page @sga_umhb.
