Apartment Eligibility: Exceptions to the apartment eligibility policy (completed 48 hours and residing in traditional housing for one academic school year or be 21 or older) are based on overflow or documented medical necessity. An overflow is anticipated for fall, and all current residents can select an apartment space if one is available.
Eligibility
Residency Requirement
Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on campus unless they meet at least one of the criteria listed below.
- Living with a parent, guardian, or spouse
- Over the age of 21
- Completed 48 hours & reside in traditional housing for one academic school year
- Enrolled as a part-time student
Freshmen or sophomores who are not eligible to live off campus but wish to do so must submit an Application for Permission to Live Off-Campus form. These forms are available in the Residence Life Office, Suite 2220, 2nd floor of Bawcom Student Union.
Financial Requirement
To be eligible for an assignment, you must be in good standing on your student account. Anyone with a financial hold could be blocked from selecting space during Step Two. Check with the UMHB Bursar’s Office about your account status before the housing selection process opens if you have any questions about your standing.
Enrollment Requirement
To submit a housing application and occupancy license, you must be enrolled as a UMHB student and current resident. Undergraduate students are given priority for housing, but graduate students may be considered if space is available. All students living in campus housing are expected to be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours per semester of occupancy.
Apartment Eligibility
UMHB policy states that you must be 21 or older or have 48 hours to be eligible to live in campus apartments. Exceptions are made to this policy based on documented medical necessity or anticipated overflow. For medical necessity, you must go through the accommodations process handled by Disability Services. That office is located on the third floor of the Mabee Student Success Center. Students with approved accommodations typically are given an early time slot for housing selection. To get an early time slot based on accommodation, the accommodation process needs to be completed by February 15. Check with the Residence Life Office to ensure that documentation is on file if it has been submitted for a prior semester.
Freshmen must live in traditional halls on campus unless they meet at least one of the criteria listed below.
- Over the age of 21
- Completed 48 hours and have resided in traditional housing for one academic school year
