These plans are based on federal, state, and local regulations and guidance available at this time, as well as public health recommendations. As the situation with COVID-19 is fluid, they are subject to change by the time our community returns to campus in August.
Outdoor Campus Spaces (Sidewalks, Campus Pathways and Near-Building Outdoor Amenities)
- Maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others is required on the UMHB campus to avoid exposure to the COVID-19 virus.
- Wear a face mask at all times if social distancing is unpredictable or difficult to maintain.
- Stay out of crowded places and avoid lines when possible.
Entering Campus Buildings
Your CruCard may be required for entry into certain campus facilities, so please have it with you at all times. To maintain social distancing, do not hold open doors for any other person. Be mindful to follow any directional signage and be prepared to change your daily routine to adhere to any new foot traffic patterns. After entering a building, sanitize your hands at the nearest sanitizer station.
Elevators, Corridors, Lobbies and Stairs
- Students must wear face coverings when using elevators, corridors, and stairs and walking through lobbies and atriums.
- Elevator usage should ensure physical distancing is achieved. In buildings with elevators, occupancy in the elevators will be limited to a maximum of four people (or less, depending on elevator capacity), and will increase wait times, so plan accordingly. Using stairs whenever possible will assist vertical circulation given that elevator capacities may be challenged.
- If you are using the elevator, wear your face mask/covering and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol upon departing the elevator. Custodial crews will be wiping down elevator buttons periodically during the day.
Large Events
Large events may not be scheduled, depending on the current state-mandated social distancing requirements.
Meetings
- As much as possible, avoid in-person meetings and elect for teleconference or video meetings.
- Seating will be spaced to ensure room capacity to comply with social distancing.
Visitors to Campus
Visitors and guests are not allowed in campus buildings during this time. Invited guests (e.g., contractors) are allowed only with explicit permission of the appropriate Senior Vice President (Dr. Vassar or Dr. Theodore) and are expected to abide by all campus-wide and building- specific health and safety protocols.
MABEE STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER
Campus Police
- All services will be available, including:

- Driver authorization (training and certification)

- Claiming lost items
- A table with forms and supplies will be in place to facilitate social distancing.

- There will be limited admittance to Campus Police Department interior offices.
Mail Services

- No signature is required for any Post Office transaction at this time.
- Students, faculty, and staff members will need to present their Cru Cards for package pick-up.

Center for Academic Excellence
- All UMHB community members are required to wear a mask in the common areas of the CAE.
- At least 6-foot social distancing is required. The CAE help desk is stanchioned, and floor markings have been placed to provide a visual aid for social distancing.
- Only one person per table in the study area is allowed.
- For individual studying purposes, one person per tutor room is allowed. Students must check into a tutor room at the CAE front desk.
- Every third computer will be available for use.
- Tutoring and Mentoring appointments will be held both in person and online. Peer tutoring and mentor appointments should be scheduled via the Navigate Student App.
- Masks must be worn by both tutor/mentor and student during in person appointments.
- Tutor/mentor aids should be shared virtually by students. If this is not possible, the tutor/mentor should disinfect all items (markers, maps, study aids, etc.) after each use.
- Tutors/mentors and students may utilize a tutor room and sit at the same table, but no more than one student and one tutor/mentor in each session. The tutor/mentor must disinfect the room or table after each use.
- Supplemental Instruction (SI) will be held in classrooms already arranged for social distancing. SI sessions will follow the same protocols as UMHB courses.
- SI office hours will be virtually, and information will be shared online between students and leaders.
- SI leaders will disinfect any tools used during sessions (i.e. markers).
- Student Success Staff appointments will be done virtually via Zoom. If unable to meet virtually, appointments will be held in person with social distancing measures in place. Both students and staff must wear a mask if social distancing is not an option.
- Hand sanitizer will be available in the study area, and students must wash hands or use sanitizer upon entering.
- Tables in study area must be wiped down by staff after each use.
- Tutor rooms must be wiped down by staff after use.
CRU Writing Center
- The CRU Writing Center is providing tutoring and workshop services online during the fall semester. All workshops and tutoring sessions are in real time, using the computer. Students will need access to a computer with a camera, a mic, and headphones (if interested). - Capacity will follow “Open Texas” protocols: no more than 40 patrons at one time in the Fitness Center, 12 patrons in the Aerobics Room, 25 patrons in the Recreation Gym, and 10 in the Recreation Gym loft.
- Patrons must wash or sanitize their hands prior to entering the fitness center. Hand sanitizer will be available at the Welcome Desk.

- Patrons will provide their CRU Card numbers to the Welcome Desk, preventing the need to physically exchange the CRU Card for entry.

- Patrons will be required to wipe down their equipment before each use with the provided cleaning wipes. Mayborn Campus Center employees will clean/disinfect equipment after each use, allowing for at least 5 minutes of disinfecting time.

Registrar’s Office
- Telephone calls, emails or video meetings with Registrar’s Office staff members are strongly encouraged.
- If in-person meetings are needed, please call ahead to make an appointment whenever possible. An alternate venue may be designated to accommodate appropriate social distancing.
- Face masks are required when visiting the Registrar’s Office.
- At least 6-foot social distancing is required. Directional signage has been placed to provide a visual aid for social distancing.
- Only two people at any one time will be allowed inside the counter area of the Registrar’s Office.
- Polycarbonate guards have been installed at counter stations. Please stand directly in front of the guard for the station you are using.
- Designated one-way entrance/exit doors with signage are established.

Bursar’s Office
- Students are encouraged to conduct transactions electronically at https://www.umhb.edu/resources/bursar/account-payments or send check payments via regular mail.
- Most inquiries can be handled via telephone or email.
- If in-person meetings are needed, please call ahead to make an appointment whenever possible. Face coverings are required in all common areas of Sanderford Administrative Complex.
- Polycarbonate guards have been installed at the Bursar’s Office counter.
- The Bursar’s Office is configured in two sections, with each door being an entry and exit point. Visitors will enter and exit through the same door so as not to cross another person transacting business in the enclosed space.
- Hard-copy receipts / account statements will not be distributed. They will be emailed immediately following the transaction.
- At least 6-foot social distancing is required. Floor markings have been placed to provide a visual aid for social distancing.
- Only the student transacting business and one FERPA-authorized contact accompanying the student will be allowed in the Bursar’s Office.

Financial Aid

Information Technology Help Desk
- The Help Desk provides support for university-owned technology equipment and standardized software. We also support students in accessing the UMHB network.

- Help Desk hours of operation: 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday.

Mayborn Campus Center (Fitness Center, Recreation Gym, and Aerobics Room)
- Capacity will follow state and local health protocols:
- Patrons must wash or sanitize their hands prior to entering the fitness center. Hand sanitizer will be available at the Welcome Desk.
- At least 6-foot social distancing is required. Floor markings have been placed to provide a visual aid for social distancing.
- Patrons will provide their CRU Card numbers to the Welcome Desk, preventing the need to physically exchange the CRU Card for entry.
- Some equipment will be blocked to enable social distancing.
- Patrons will keep one piece of weightlifting equipment between them and the next closest patron at all times.
- Patrons will be required to wipe down their equipment before each use with the provided cleaning wipes. Mayborn Campus Center employees will clean/disinfect equipment after each use, allowing for at least 5 minutes of disinfecting time.
- Masks will be required when outside of the fitness center or when not exercising.
- Hours of operation:
- Sunday: 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Monday to Thursday: 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
