Dining Services
These plans are based on federal, state, and local regulations and guidance available at this time, as well as public health recommendations. As the situation with COVID-19 is fluid, they are subject to change.
Residential Dining
In-person dining will be available in the dining hall with appropriate social distancing between seating areas. That means dining capacity will be limited to a certain number of diners at any one time.
Students will have the option to take food out of the dining hall in disposable containers to be eaten in their rooms or at the picnic tables on campus.
To limit the number of people coming in contact with common surfaces, there will be no self-service food stations in the dining hall. Items that were traditionally self-service, like the salad bar, cereal bar, and cookie/pastry dispenser areas will be provided in another way – either served by a food service employee or offered in a prepackaged form.
Retail Dining
Moe’s Southwest Grill, Chick-fil-A, Mabee Market, and Starbucks will operate during their usual business hours. Seating in these areas will be limited in order to follow social distancing guidelines.
Enhanced Food Services Health and Safety Measures
Food service employees will wear face coverings and gloves at all times. Frequent handwashing and hand sanitizing will be implemented.
Enhanced cleaning will also be performed in all food service areas including kitchens, serving areas, and seating areas.
Food service employees will be required to perform a daily screening prior to work and to stay at home if they have any COVID-related symptoms or if they have been in close contact with anyone who is diagnosed with COVID-19.
COVID-19-related training and new procedures will be reviewed with all dining associates and implemented prior to the start of the Fall semester and monitored daily.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the enhanced health and safety measures in the dining facilities is encouraged to reach out to the management team at sodexo@umhb.edu.
