Individual Parking

Commuter Parking

• A commuter student is a student who lives three or more blocks from the UMHB campus.
• All commuter students receive a gold, commuter parking decal.
• All currently enrolled students must register their vehicle with the UMHB Police Department and must properly display a valid decal on the parked vehicle.
• The following parking lots are reserved for students driving a vehicle with a commuter parking decal between the hours of 7:30 am to 2 pm.

• Commuter students may park in any student parking space. Yellow lines on the pavement identify student parking spaces.
• It is a violation of the university’s parking regulations for a residential student to display a commuter parking decal on their vehicle.

Employee Parking

• All University employees, contract employees or currently enrolled students must register their vehicle with the UMHB Police Department and must properly display a valid decal on the parked vehicle.
• An employee is an individual employed by the university in a permanent full-time or part-time basis.
• Employees receive two parking decals. To obtain a replacement parking decal, the employee must return the original parking decal or provide a bill of sale which records the sale of the vehicle originally registered with the university.
• Contractors, grad-assistants, teaching assistants and/or interns do not receive employee-parking decals.
• White lines on the pavement identify employee parking spaces.
• Employees may park in student parking areas if all employee parking spaces are full. Employees are not allowed to park in reserved areas marked by a sign.
• It is a violation of university parking regulations for anyone other than an employee to park in an employee parking space between the hours of 7:30 am to 2 pm.
• It is a violation of university parking regulations for an employee’s dependent to park in an employee parking space even though the vehicle displays a valid employee decal. Dependent students parking on campus must display the appropriate student parking decal.

Disabled Parking

• The university supports the provisions of designated disabled parking spaces at a reasonable proximity to campus buildings for individuals who are physically impaired.
• Section 681.001 of the Texas Transportation Code defines physical impairment.
• Section 681.003 of the Texas Transportation Code identifies the process to obtain a disabled parking placard and/or license plate.

• Information pertaining to the issuance of disabled license plates and placards is available online.
• Signs and/or the disabled parking emblem on the pavement identify disabled parking spaces.
• Individuals issued a state issued disabled parking placard and/or license plate may park in an employee space if the adjacent disabled parking spaces are full.
• Disabled parking spaces are reserved for disabled individuals 24 hours a day seven days a week.
• To park in a disabled parking space, a vehicle must display a valid UMHB parking decal and a state issued disabled parking placard and/or license plate. In addition, the driver or passenger in the vehicle must be the person being issued the disabled parking placard and/or license plate.
• It is a violation of university parking regulations for a person to park in a disabled parking space unless the vehicle displays a valid UMHB parking decal and a state issued disabled parking placard and/or license plate. In addition, the driver or passenger in the vehicle must be the person being issued the disabled parking placard and/or license plate.
• Section 681.012 authorizes university officers to seize any state issued disabled parking placard used by any person other than the driver or passenger issued the disabled parking placard and/or license plate.

Recreational Vehicles

• The university prohibits the overnight parking of recreational vehicles on campus.
• The university prohibits the overnight parking of boats and/or off road vehicles on campus.
• On game days, recreational vehicles may park in the tailgate parking lot and/or the Sportsplex parking lot. These vehicles must be moved following the game.

Residential Parking

• A residential student is a student who lives in university housing and/or within three blocks of the UMHB campus.
• All residential students receive a purple, residential parking decal.
• Students must register their vehicle with the UMHB Police Department and must properly display a valid parking decal on their vehicle.
• Residential students may park in any student parking space not reserved for commuter students. Yellow lines on the pavement identify student parking spaces. Lines on both side of a vehicle are used to identify a parking space.
• The following parking lots are reserved for students driving a vehicle with a commuter parking decal between the hours of 7:30 am to 2 pm.

Visitors

• A visitor is a person who has no affiliation with the university. Visitors are defined as guests and other individuals visiting the campus on university business attending public functions, visiting the university library, attending sporting events, etc.
• Employees and/or students should not park in a visitor space, even if the employee or student is driving an unregistered vehicle.
• Signs identify visitor parking spaces.
• With a visitor-parking pass, visitors may park in any student parking space. Yellow lines on the pavement identify student parking spaces.
• Visitor parking spaces are reserved 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
• Visitors may obtain visitor-parking passes at the UMHB Police Department.

• The university will dismiss the first citation a visitor receives, if the visitor contacts the UMHB Police Department. Individuals attending athletic events, and/or evening performances are not required to obtain a visitor parking pass prior to the event.
