Dr. Marlene Mixon Zipperlen '67 is Dean of the College of Education. Prior to coming to UMHB, Dr. Zipperlen served the community and students of Clifton, Texas as Superintendent of Schools for the Clifton Independent School District. She concluded her public school career after thirty years having positions as a teacher, counselor, principal, and superintendent of schools.
She received several awards, including Superintendent of the Year from the Region 12 Education Service Center, Bosque county Outstanding Woman of the Year, and Employer of the Year. Dr. Zipperlen is a member of several professional and community organizations, including Phi Delta Kappa, Rotary Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of Community Schools, Association for Supervision and Curriculum, Texas Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and Texas Association of Deans of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
After receiving her degree from UMHB, she received her master's and specialist's degrees in education from Baylor University as well as her Doctor of Education. Other professional certifications include professional special education counselor, professional counselor, professional superintendent, professional mid-management administrator, and Texas teacher certification.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Zipperlen and her husband, Paul, have sevenchildren, Paul Allen, Michelle Mann, Brian, Mason, and Makenna class of 2000. They have also been blessed with five grandchildren, Daniel, Dalton, Jackson, Morgan, and Kalani.
