Curriculum Vitae (Résumé)
My name is Dr. Jerome J. Lockett. I was born and raised in Gary, Indiana…that’s right…the city of the number one passed pop artist…Michael Jackson. I did move to Chicago for a while to experience the fast pace of Chicago life. Although this experience was pleasurable, I decided to move back to a slower pace area, which is in Schererville, IN. As a four sport high school athlete, I had always been a die-hard basketball fan of the mighty “IU Hoosiers” and will always be.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University. Soon after, I became Partner with my brother’s Independent CPA Practice. Years later, I decided to enhance my business background by returning to school where I earned my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Indiana Wesleyan University. Subsequently, to add more to my accounting background, I also earned my Doctorate of Accounting (DBA) from Argosy University of Chicago.
For the past 30+ years, I worked in many diverse jobs within the accounting industry. To highlight a few, I was hired as Accounting Specialists for Chicago’s “McCormick Place” where I was responsible for all cash management, inventory, and audit functions. Soon afterwards, a non-profit organization hired me as the Fiscal Accountant where I performed audits/analysis for Federal and State Government Grants, inventory management, and budget forecasting for financial reporting.
During the past 15 years to current, I decided to phase myself out of Corporate America and begin to venture into my own business by rendering accounting and financial services for profit and non-profit organizations. As a result, an opportunity presented itself to me to become V.P. of Financial & Business Operations and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for “The Lighthouse Church of All Nations,” where I currently serve. To keep my public accounting skills current, I also became Partner to an Independent CPA Practice called, “Angel Tax Services” located in Matteson IL.
For the past 14+ years, I also served as an Affiliate Professor for Indiana Wesleyan University where I taught a variety of accounting, finance, and management courses for the Masters and Bachelor’s degree programs. In addition, I also served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Accounting at Dominican University, Adjunct Accounting Professor at Elmhurst College, Visiting Professor of Accounting at DeVry University and Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Brown Mackie College, where I taught a variety of accounting, finance, and business courses.
Now is the time for a new chapter in my life as I journey into a new role as Assistant Professor of Accounting for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. What an awesome opportunity!!!
To relax, my wife, Juanita, and I enjoy attending Chicago’s Symphony Orchestra, jazz concerts, and theater plays. In addition, I enjoy playing keyboards and I love music…mostly smooth jazz and classical music. I also enjoy working out at the health club, tennis, and golf which I indeed need major help.
Although these are things I enjoy, my most joy is teaching. I am excited and can’t wait to get entrenched in the Texas environment!!!
Here, we will establish a good and healthy relationship within this academia learning environment.
