Dr. Novak has been an occupational therapist for 25 years. She has extensive experience working with adults with neurological conditions (stroke, Parkinson's, traumatic brain injury, etc.), cardiopulmonary conditions (CHF, COPD, post-CABG), and orthopedic conditions (shoulder replacement, hip fracture/replacement, arthritis, etc.). She has worked in acute care, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, outpatient, and home health. She is certified in Gerontology by the Americal Occupational Therapy Association.
Since 2016, she has focused on working with people with dementia and their families and care partners. During her time at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio, she participated in the development of outpatient and home-based programs, a driving clinic, and a multi-specialty clinic as a clinician with the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases. Her research has focused on creating and implementing evidence-based intervention programs which help families navigate behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.
