Accommodation Problem-Solving Guidelines

Accommodations Appropriately Provided

If a student believes that an approved accommodation is being appropriately provided by the university but the accommodation is not meeting the student’s needs, the student (not the parent) should request a meeting with Blayne Alaniz, Director of Student Disability and Testing Services to review the accommodation and explore other available accommodations.

For example, a student may be allowed to use a recording device as a disability accommodation, but after a period of time, realizes that method is not effective and instead, wishes to request note-taking services.

Accommodations Not Appropriately Provided

If a student believes that any of his/her approved accommodations are not being appropriately provided by the university as agreed upon, the student (not the parent) may utilize one or more of the following options:

1. For academic accommodations, the student may elect to discuss the issue directly with the faculty member or with Blayne Alaniz, Director of Student Disability and Testing Services. If the student elects to discuss with the faculty member, the underlying reason for the needed disability accommodations should not be disclosed.
2. For non-academic accommodations (i.e. housing, facilities, participation in co-curricular activities, etc.), the student may elect to discuss the issue directly with the university staff member who manages the program or facility. If the student elects this option, the underlying reason for the needed disability accommodations should not be disclosed.
3. Whether or not the student has elected to utilize options 1 or 2 above, the student may elect to request a meeting with:

Reporting Disability Discrimination

As outlined in the university course catalog, a student or applicant who claims to have been unlawfully discriminated against due to any university regulation or policy or the action of any university employee should submit a written complaint to the designated coordinator for university compliance with nondiscrimination policies:
