Belton, Texas – On Tuesday, September 17, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts will welcome the internationally acclaimed Sotto Voce Quartet to the Baugh Performance Hall of the Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Comprised of four very talented Tubists, Sotto Voce is regarded as America’s premiere low brass quartets. The group challenges preconceived notions about what tubas can do by composing, arranging, and commissioning virtuosic new works that highlight the diversity of the ensemble and its unique membership.
The artists who make up Sotto Voce have widely diverse careers in music and are regularly in demand as performers, composers, and clinicians. Demondrae Thurman (high euphonium) is Professor of Music at Jacobs School of Music in Indiana University. Mark Carlson (low euphonium) is an Assistant Professor of Music at Mount Saint Mary’s University and Director of Instrumental Ensembles. Kent Eschelman (high tuba) is Associate Professor of Tuba/Euphonium at Baylor University and Principal Tuba with the Waco Symphony Orchestra. Mike Forbes (low tuba) is perhaps best known for his many compositions and arrangements and is the Principal Tubist with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and Instructor of Tuba/Euphonium at the UW-La Crosse.
General Admission tickets will cost $20 for adults, and $10 for seniors and children between the ages of 6 and 18. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center or online at www.ticketreturn.com.
