Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts is excited to welcome the KASA string quartet, winners of the 2017 Coltman National Chamber Music Competition, as the final artists of the 2019 Hillman Visiting Artists Series. The program will take place on Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 pm, in Baugh Concert Hall of the Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center. The concert is free to everyone but a ticket is required to attend.
The group will present its special project of music by Marvin Hamlisch, along with Joaquín Turina's La oración del torero, and Robert Schumann's String Quartet No. 3. KASA's Marvin Hamlisch project began two years ago at the request of his widow, Terre Blair Hamlisch. Of the original string quartet arrangements made to commemorate Hamlisch's life, KASA Quartet will be premiering a suite from Sweet Smell of Success, one of his final major Broadway musicals. Hamlisch is one of only two people in history to have won Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards
"Marvin Hamlisch was often known as the 'composer of the people,'" KASA’s cellist and arranger Kyle Price said. "His music resonated with American concert, movie, and theater-goers, leading to his PEGOT honors.”
