Fall 2019 Convocation

Belton, Texas – On Wednesday, August 28, Jennifer Manning, a member of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Board of Trustees, was the guest speaker at the university’s 174th Fall Convocation service. Convocation inaugurates the official opening of the new academic school year.

After UMHB faculty members processed into the arena of the Frank and Sue Mayborn Campus Center, there was a parade of flags, representing each of the 28 countries and territories around the globe and 34 states around the nation from which UMHB students have journeyed to campus this year.

“I hope that, after Welcome Week and the candle lighting and dubbing ceremonies on Sunday, you truly feel initiated into the Crusader family,” UMHB President Randy O’Rear said. “New and experienced Crusaders alike know that the faculty and staff are fully invested in your success and look forward to being a part of your academic journey.”

Manning took the podium to offer advice to the audience of students, primarily freshmen, in attendance.

“I want to encourage you to strengthen yourself academically, spiritually, physically,” Manning said. “It’s never going to be easier than it is right now at UMHB.”

Take charge and take a risk. This is the perfect time in your life to step outside of your comfort zone.
