Belton, Texas – On Saturday, April 14, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor students, faculty, and staff members will be participating in The Big Event. Formerly known as Reaching Out, The Big Event is a student-led event that sends participants to serve in the Bell County area.
The Big Event is organized by the UMHB Student Government Association (SGA). Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff work from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers will be able to choose where they want to serve and in what capacity.
This year volunteers will have a wide variety of roles in which they can choose to serve. Some of the service opportunities involve painting the exteriors of a new Veterans Center and The 4-1-1, a location that will soon serve as a hangout for underprivileged youth. One group will help clean along the shoreline of Lake Belton. Another will be clear ground near the creek at Summers Mill Retreat. Volunteers will also be painting and doing landscaping for a few elderly residents in the area.
Volunteers will be served breakfast and lunch and be given commemorative t-shirts.
