Belton, Texas – On Wednesday, August 29, Don Piper, a Baptist minister and bestselling author of 90 Minutes in Heaven, was guest speaker during University of Mary Hardin-Baylor chapel services.
Piper shared his testimony with the audience. In 1989, he was driving home from a church conference, when his car was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler. A team of four paramedics worked diligently to revive Piper.
“In spite of their best efforts, they were unsuccessful, and I was pronounced dead on the scene,” Piper said. “Which I think brings up a great question, what am I doing in Belton?”
After the paramedics had laid a tarp over Piper’s lifeless body, a fellow motorist convinced authorities to let him pray over dead man. A ful hour and a half after the crash, the stranger, his hand on Piper’s right shoulder, began singing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” when, to his great shock, Piper began to sing along.
