Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts and the UMHB Art Department are proud to present a special art exhibition entitled A Square Foot of Peace: An Invitational Exhibition Celebrating International Day of Peace. The exhibit will be on display beginning Wednesday, September 20, in the lobby of the Baugh Center for Visual Arts on the UMHB campus. The opening will be marked by a reception at 5:30 p.m., which will include a performance by the university’s elite choir, One Voice, and a reading by local poet Chris Boldt. This event is free and open to the public.
This exhibition, which will be on display through October 20, was curated by UMHB Art professor Helen Kwiatkowski in support of International Day of Peace. Invited artists were asked to create 12”x12” works which reflected their thoughts about peace.

Established in 1981 by the United Nations, Peace Day is devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” It provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace.
Artists in the exhibit include: Aubrey Carroll, Bonnie Chapa, Pam Cummings, Nan Dickson, Amy Flinn, Barbara Fontaine-White, Alyssa Geiger, Hannah Goheen, John Hancock, Melanie Hickerson, Tom Hicks, Dave Hill, Ellen Huffman, Nancy Isett, Emily Kaitz, Helen Kwiatkowski, Lori Lamb, Don McNeish, Robin McLauren, Ella Rowand, Lynn Millsap Clark, Hershall Seals, Hugo Shi, Matt Smith, Richard Skurla and Ellen Van Truren.
