Belton, Texas – Miss Search Cru, Tori Pharris was crowned Miss Mary Hardin-Baylor 2018, Saturday, November 11, in the annual Miss MHB Pageant held in W.W. Walton Chapel on the UMHB campus.
Reigning Miss MHB Bridgit Sillman crowned Pharris at the conclusion of the evening’s contest.
Unlike other pageants, Miss MHB celebrates young woman with self-confidence, personality, and inner beauty. Each of the evening’s twenty competitors represent a different class or organization. They also each champion a platform of their choosing. Tori’s platform is “Supporting Military Families during Deployment.”
A member of the university Wind Ensemble, Pharris's musical talents were on full display during talent competition, when she performed the UMHB alma mater on water glasses.
Pharris, is a junior mass communications major from Cedar Park. She is the daughter of Bradford and Donna Beard. Pharris is a Resident Assistant at Independence Village and has served on Homecoming Steering Committee.
Other finalists in the top five were: Runner Up Miss Baptist Student Ministry, Hannah John, 2nd Runner Up Miss Senior Class, Katie Winekauf, 3rd Runner Up Miss Junior Class, Jenna Albright, and 4th Runner Up Miss McLane Hall, Sarah Jane Leaverton.
Other awards were given to contestants on individual elements of the pageant. Miss Freshman Class, Ally Jordan won best talent. Miss Student Foundation, Hannah Yoes, won Best Evening Gown. Miss Farris Hall, Keyarius Johnson, won both Best Interview and Miss Congeniality.
