Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has announced that Dr. Brandon Skaggs has been promoted to the position of Vice President for Student Life and will transition to his new position on January 2, 2017. An alumnus of UMHB, Skaggs joined the administration of the university in January 2016 as Director of Alumni Relations and has more than 10 years of experience in Christian higher education administration.
The search for a new vice president began this fall when Dr. Byron Weathersbee announced that he would be leaving the position at year’s end. Weathersbee and his wife, Carla, have accepted positions as the new executive directors at Summers Mill Retreat and Conference Center in Belton.
A 2003 graduate with a double major in Business Management and Computer Information Systems, Skaggs earned an MBA in Finance and Management from Tarleton State University and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Dallas Baptist University.
He served in a series of roles at Dallas Baptist, including Director of Admissions and Recruitment, International Recruiter, Graduate Advisor, and Assistant to the Vice President and Dean of the Gary Cook Graduate School of Leadership. In 2011 Skaggs moved to Oklahoma Baptist University, where he served as Associate Vice President for Student Development & Dean of Students until moving to UMHB this year.
As a student at UMHB, Skaggs was involved in Student Government and served Student Body President. From 2010 to 2013, he served as the inaugural president of the Young Alumni Board at UMHB.
“Dr. Skaggs’ extensive experience in student life administration and his understanding of our campus culture make him an outstanding selection as Vice President for Student Life,” said Dr. Steve Theodore, Senior Vice President for Administration and COO. “He shares our commitment to Christian higher education and to providing students with outstanding educational experiences both in and outside the classroom. We are excited that he will be stepping forward to lead the Division of Student Life.”
