Belton, Texas – On Saturday, November 12, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor hosted Military Appreciation Day in Crusader Stadium on the UMHB campus. Activities throughout the game paid tribute to members of the military.
Active duty military members and their families were treated to free admission to the game and concession tickets redeemable for hotdogs and drinks.
Captain Khanasto West, chaplain for the 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, offered a pre-game prayer. The UMHB Blackshirt Cru Spirit Band accompanied Sergeant Randy Holmes, a vocalist assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division Band, in a performance of the national anthem. Captain Mike Fetter and Specialist Johnathan Crawford were responsible for the coin toss at the start of the game.
During halftime the band performed a medley of songs representing each of the branches of military service. Later three students in the university’s Army ROTC program, James Dutton, Nicholas Cormier, and Joel Loua, competed in a punt, pass, and kick competition.
Saturday’s contest marked the tenth and final game of the regular season for the crew. They defeated the Louisiana College Wildcats by a score of 63 to 7.
