Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts and the UMHB Art Department are proud to present a special art exhibition entitled A Square Foot of Peace: An Invitational Exhibition Celebrating International Day of Peace. The show will open Wednesday, September 21, in the gallery of the Baugh Center for Visual Arts on the UMHB campus. The opening will be marked by a reception at 5:30 p.m., which will include a performance by the university’s elite choir One Voice and a reading by local poet Richard Egg.
This exhibition, which will run through October 21, was curated by UMHB Art professor, Helen Kwiatkowski in support of International Day of Peace. Invited artists where asked to create a 12”x12” work which reflected their thoughts about peace.
The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on the twenty-first day of September. Established in 1981 by the United Nations, Peace Day is devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” It provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace.
Artists include: Wynona Alexander, Aubrey Carroll, Bonnie Chapa, Gabrielle De La Cruz Nan Dickson, Amy Flinn, Barbara Fontaine-White, Alyssa Geiger, Hannah Goheen, John Hancock, Melanie Hickerson, Tom Hicks, Dave Hill, Ellen Huffman, Nancy Isett, Helen Kwiatkowski, Lori Lamb, Don McNeish, Robin McLauren, Lynn Millsap Clark, Donna Mullhollan, Hershall Seals, Pat Seals, Hugo Shi, Barbara Sorge, Sharron Stephenson and Ellen Van Truren
