George Solis discovered his love of bygone days at a very young age. While his buddies were dreaming of making it big on the football field, George found himself absorbed in books and shows about the two world wars and the Greek and Roman empires.
“I’ve just always liked history and have always enjoyed reading, studying, and watching things on TV about it. So being a history teacher seemed like a good fit,” said the Brownsville native who graduated with a bachelor’s in history and a 3.7 grade point average this past May.
The history buff recently learned the story behind one of the scholarships he received at UMHB — the Hannah Fair Sallee Scholarship — and knowing its origin made it even more meaningful to be selected as a beneficiary.
