Engineering Summer Bridge Program
The UMHB engineering summer bridge program puts students on the path towards success in engineering. Incoming 1st year engineering students are invited to join us on campus immediately prior to welcome week for 9 days of focused skill-building. Activities include faculty-led classes and one-on-one learning experiences that will increase math readiness (the biggest factor in engineering success) and build engineering skills. In addition, current engineering students will introduce participants to UMHB campus life and guide them through the transition to college.
Benefits:
- Increased math readiness, which is the strongest indicator of success as an engineering student
- Enhanced understanding of basic engineering skills and tools available in the UMHB Makerspace
- Opportunity to retake the ALEKS math placement test and advance into a higher math class in their first semester. Advancement will reduce the number of credits needed for graduation and align 1st year students with the suggested 4-year schedule of classes, possibly saving an extra semester of college
- Immediate connection with other UMHB engineering students (both 1st year and seasoned UMHB students)
- Early introduction to resources available on campus
Dates:
July 29th through August 6th
Activities:
Classroom instruction by UMHB faculty, peer tutoring, hands-on engineering projects, presentations from local engineering professionals, introduction sessions to campus resources, worship opportunities, discussions exploring personal calling and what it means to be an engineer, movie nights, game nights, field trips
Cost:
$1500, including room and board (all meals provided) and all activities. This summer, full scholarships will be provided for all participants.
