GRE Resources
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required for any Masters of Arts in Counseling applicants whose undergraduate cumulative or final 60 hours GPA is below a 3.0 (minimum of a 2.75 is accepted for probationary admission).
GRE Testing Centers The GRE can be scheduled at any Sylvan Learning Center or another location provided on the Educational Testing Service website when registering for the exam. All applicants required to take the exam are required to schedule the exam and pay for it on their own. The test fee is approximately $185, but a fee reduction is available dependent upon eligibility as outlined on the ETS website and below.
Study Resources Study materials and practice tests are available for use at the Townsend Memorial Library for all applicants. Materials can only be checked out by current UMHB students, and anyone else using these resources will have use of materials only in the on campus library.
GRE Fee Reduction Certificate ETS offers a limited number of GRE Fee Reduction Certificates on a first-come, first-serve basis. Individuals meeting the eligibility requirements will be required to pay 50 percent of the full test fee.
To review eligibility requirements, please visit the GRE website. To Apply for GRE Fee Reduction Certificate:
- Contact the Financial Aid Office at 254-295-4517 to see if you qualify
- If you are eligible the Financial Aid Office will issue a Fee Reduction Certificate and a copy of your ISIR. You will then follow the instructions on the certificate, and allow up to three weeks for processing and mail delivery.
*Letter requests, photocopies, and faxes of Fee Reduction Certificates will not be accepted. Fee Reduction Certificates are not retroactive and they cannot be replaced if lost if stolen. Refunds are not available for unused Fee Reduction Certificates and will not be provided to examinees who are not admitted to the test for any reason (including unacceptable identification).
