Embedded Dissertation
The UMHB Ed.D. program encourages and facilitates the timely completion of high quality, relevant dissertation research through an embedded dissertation model. This unique model offers a structured and supportive approach to doctoral studies, providing numerous benefits that contribute to a higher completion rate. By integrating dissertation research throughout the program, students gain early exposure to the research process, allowing them to develop essential skills and knowledge incrementally. This approach also fosters a sense of momentum and reduces the overwhelming feeling of a solitary, end-of-program dissertation project. Students begin writing elements of their dissertation in the fall of their first year. Furthermore, the embedded dissertation model often includes dedicated coursework and mentorship opportunities specifically designed to support students in their research endeavors. This guidance and support throughout their time in the program, from beginning to end, helps students stay on track, addresses challenges proactively, and ultimately increases the successful completion of their dissertation and doctoral degree. A high percentage of UMHB Ed.D. students complete their coursework and defend their dissertation within three years. Watch the short video below for more information.
