Our Career Services Department works with students early on to prepare them for success after graduation. Through assessments and personalized meetings, they can help students identify what majors or careers they might be interested in. Once they’ve figured that out, they can utilize our Career Services Department to land internships and prepare for jobs. Of our most recent graduating class, 72% of students had a full-time job lined up after graduation, and 23% were planning to attend graduate or professional school.

We get it, finding your place on a campus of over 3,900 students can feel overwhelming. Ask anyone who has spent any time here though, and they’ll tell you that our 340-acre campus still manages to feel like ‘home’. Is it because from the first time they step foot on campus at Welcome Week, students are placed in groups of peers interested in the same major, and connected with upperclassmen who take the time to invest in new students? Maybe it’s our Residence Life that help foster a community within each of our 8 residence halls and 5 on-campus apartments. Or perhaps it's the small classroom sizes, with an 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio, so professors know your student by name. Our Student Life Division also helps, with over 50 student-led organizations (and if you don’t find one that fits, start your own!), campus activities throughout the year, and dedicated spiritual life staff in our Chaplain’s Office and Baptist Student Ministry. Or maybe it’s just all of the above, because at UMHB, there is never a shortage of opportunities to stay connected physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

As a parent, this is an important question, and we take it very seriously. UMHB’s Police Department is staffed with police officers, not security guards, who patrol UMHB 24/7. We also utilize a Cru Alert System to notify the UMHB community of any possible warnings or campus emergencies (and, as a parent, you can opt in to this system, too!). In addition to both of these, UMHB has taken measures to make our campus a safer environment, too. More lighting has been added on multiple streets and around the Quad, and residence halls are card-access only.

We have lots of resources available to students to help them throughout their time here. If students have trouble in class, our Center for Academic Excellence is available to provide tutoring, academic counseling, and much more to help students get back on their feet in the classroom. For students needing assistance on a personal level, UMHB offers free counseling from licensed professional counselors, in addition to working with students who need disability support or testing accommodations through our Testing & Counseling Center. Finally, we have a full-time nurse available to provide health care and health education to students. To make this even easier, all of this is housed in one building - our Mabee Student Success Center.
