Guidelines for Creative Projects

Creative Projects (visual and performing Arts, creative writing, etc.) should be substantial works that make contributions to the body of knowledge in the field. Projects may cover a wide spectrum of topics and formats, including original compositions, lecture recitals, or art exhibits.

Students undertaking a creative project must develop a theme, problem, or issue by exploring a variety of research sources. The works they create must explore personally meaningful ideas, have conceptual and intellectual importance, and must be accomplished with skill.

Creative projects must also include a written apparatus that includes a description of the work, an analysis of their creative efforts, and an interpretation of the work’s meaning as well as the research and creative processes that were employed. The written apparatus must also demonstrate connections to cultural, historical, and aesthetic contexts.
